About Us

The Pilbara Health Network has been delivering quality health care to Pilbara communities since 1998. Trading as Karratha Central Healthcare, we are a not for profit community-based organisation which aims to improve the health of Pilbara communities through the provision of comprehensive primary care, allied health and mental health services.

Our services include delivery of government-funded programs to eligible clients, Medicare-funded services and services offered for a fee through our dedicated and professional team of Podiatrists, Diabetes Educators, Care Coordinators and Psychologists.

Dietician appointments are also available on site – call our friendly reception staff to book an appointment.

Psychology Services

Karratha Central Healthcare offers accessible psychological services to Karratha and surrounding areas. Our experienced clinicians can provide assessment and psychological therapy for clients of all ages who are experiencing a range of difficulties.

We can offer help with:

  • anxiety and depression
  • mood and stress-related problems
  • pain management
  • bereavement and grief
  • adjustment and loss
  • assessment of academic skills, intellectual strengths and weaknesses
  • behavioural, emotional and adjustment problems in children and adolescents
  • support for persons/families with developmental disabilities
  • social skills and communication difficulties
  • psychological difficulties related to old age
  • cognitive, social, emotional and behavioural assessments

Sessions usually last between 45 minutes and 60 minutes and are provided at Karratha Central Healthcare in Karratha.

Outreach services within the Pilbara can be negotiated.

Podiatry Services

The Podiatry team provide education, prevention, diagnosis, assessment and treatment of diseases that complicate the health of the feet and lower extremities.

This includes:

  • Management of nail and skin pathologies (callus, thickened nails, cracked heels)
  • Wound management
  • Assessment and education including the Diabetic foot, peripheral vascular and neuropathic disease
  • Falls prevention
  • Footwear review and advice
  • Ingrown nail treatment and surgery
  • Biomechanical assessment (including Plantar Fasciitis and Heel Pain)

Diabetes Education

Our Diabetes Educator can provide individuals living with diabetes the opportunity to better manage their condition:

  • Learn how to live well with Diabetes and what it means to you.
  • Be given information that provides clear and expertise knowledge in how to manage your diabetes.
  • Be linked into organisations that can assist you with diabetes related products.
  • Education about medications.
  • How to monitor your blood glucose levels.
  • Insulin commencement and titration.
  • What to do when you become sick.
  • Learn about the risks and how to reduce them.

Dietitian Services

A Dietitian is an expert in diet and nutrition who uses this knowledge to promote health and prevent and treat diseases. A dietitian can provide support in changing diet and lifestyle behaviours and provide knowledge of the most up-to-date dietary interventions to help those with medical conditions.

We can offer help with:

  • Weight management
  • Cardiovascular disease management eg. Hypertension and high cholesterol
  • Help with Diabetes (Type 1 and Type 2)
  • Food intolerances and irritable bowel syndrome
  • Underweight and malnutrition

What can you expect at your first visit?

At your first appointment we get to know a lot about you including medical history, anthropometry (e.g. weight and height), lifestyle habits and dietary assessment. We will then go on to discuss the relationship between the medical condition presented and diet and then work with you to create SMART goals to help improve your diet.

 Facilities
